bulletin n° 16 - bulletin n° 7 - bulletin n° 8

mise à jour :11/02/2012

Our World Citizens Association has now reached its eighth birthday. Many thanks once again to you and all our members and supporters for all your efforts and support over the past year.

I've sent out hard copies of this to those members and supporters for whom we have addresses, but not(!) to those who opted against hard copies. For the latter, PLEASE download the renewal form from above if you intend to continue your support ..

Memberships

Membership applications/renewals are due, except for those who have joined within the last six months. A membership form is attached, assuming that you are still happy to give us your support! The contribution of every member and supporter remains vital. I hope you can continue to provide us with your financial and/or moral support for the coming year.

Donations

We will not be issuing a separate appeal for donations for the Bangladesh Aid Project this year, so please consider a generous donation along with your membership renewal. A report on the project is included in the Bulletin. We are largely supporting the primary schooling for 250 children of flood victims with our quarterly contributions, and you won't find better value for money anywhere! You can sponsor a child for $1 per day (total $365), or else give whatever smaller sum you can comfortably manage.

To previous child sponsors, we apologize for the long delay, but photos and information will be coming soon.

Bulletin

A copy of our Bulletin is attached, somewhat late, outlining what we have been up to in the past six months.

In the coming year, our plans include:

  • 1. We will continue our support of Wali Islam's Bangladesh aid project, as well as other possible projects in Australia or the Pacific. After long delay, our application for Deductible Gift Recipient status (tax deductibility) has been REJECTED by AusAID, but the door seems open for a revised application, which we will prepare in the coming year.
  • 2. Our proposal for a Centre/Initiative on Global Governance and International Peace, with funding courtesy of Thich Minh Tam, has not been accepted by UNSW in its initial form, but we hope to continue negotiations with them and other possible hosts.
  • 3. We will continue to support the campaign for a United Nations Parliamentary Assembly, and try to promote discussion on the idea of a Community of Democratic Nations. I am attending a Council meeting of the World Federalist Movement shortly to push the latter strategy.
  • 4. Led by Daryl Le Cornu, we will endeavour to have more material on international law and governance introduced into the high school curriculum. Congratulations to Daryl on his promotion - see the Bulletin.
