INVITATION TO JURNALISTS
Towards a greater respect for Human Rights : an appeal for a reform of the United Nations
Speakers

Daniel DURAND

President of the World Citizens Registry,
Administrator of ASCOP, Founding Member of the NGO World Community Against Hunger

Marie-Françoise LAMPERTI

President of the French Action for Human Rights group,
Member of the Consultative Assembly to the Peoples Congress.

Sixty years after the proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,States have still not been able to guarantee the basic rights contained in the afore-mentioned declaration that they have yet signed and ratified. That is why some fifty NGO members of ASCOP adopted a joint declaration calling for U N. reform to ensure within the U.N. institution the peoples' right to expression irrespective of states.

In mid-November,this declaration supported by a global petition will be put to the Heads of State and Government as well as to the international institutions so that they can bring it on the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly.

At this press conference, the content of this declaration will be presented as well as the campaign actions planned up to the month of November in France and around the world.

Speakers will also high-light the question of the emergence of citizenship and democracy faced with the inability of states to guarantee to the individuals their fundamental rights.

In this context,it is necessary that the peoples' right to expression is exerted in the heart of the United Nations.
